Sign a petition to save The UptownIt was more than just a movie, it was about the experience.
The theater was built with a lavish interior that is rarely seen in modern architecture and attracted people from all over the city because of it.
After being closed since the mid 80s, the theater is still waiting for redevelopment. With its place on the National, State, and City landmark lists, it has a fighting chance for survival.
This magnificent piece of art, despite being unoccupied, is breathtaking. Its huge, so much larger than I ever expected; so much more luxurious than I ever thought. I have never been in a building quite like it and I imagine than I probably never will again.
I hope the theater can once again re-open to the public. It would be a shame for the community, the city and its residents to lose this landmark. For those who have never experienced The Uptown personally I hope than one day you have a chance without having to resort to pages in a book.
Its simply remarkable.
